Wireless Game Console Setup

Click the links below to go to the setup information for wirelessly connecting each console to the network.

Game Consoles are not to be connected to the wired network. Only Wireless connections will be supported.

Users will also need to input the WPA key in order to gain access to the gaming network. Please check the helpdesk knowledge base article for the current WPA key. In order to locate the key, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in the helpdesk at http://helpdesk.troy.edu
  2. Click on Knowledge Base
  3. In the search box type 278, hit Enter.
  4. Click on the article displayed for the current key.

Wii - Getting Connected Online


  1. First, get to the "Wii Main Menu," and then select the Wii icon on the bottom left.



  2. Now, select "Wii Settings" to access the "Wii System Settings" menu.



  3. Using the arrow on the right side of the screen, scroll to page two and select "Internet."



  4. Next, select "Connection Settings."



  5. You should now see three connection slots that say "None." Select "Connection 1."



  6. Select "Wireless Connection."



  7. Select "Search for an Access Point"



  8. After a moment you will be asked to "Choose the access point you want to connect to." Select "OK" and your Wii console will display any wireless access points it finds.



    Now let's pick your access point! Hopefully, you should see your access point listed with a green signal strength icon.

    To connect to the TROY network Select RESNET Console as your wireless network.


Playstation 3 - Getting Connected Online

  1. Check that the settings for the access point have been completed.
    Check that there is an access point connected to a network with Internet service near the system. Settings for the access point are typically set using a PC. For details, contact the person who set up or maintains the access point.

  2. Confirm that an Ethernet cable is not connected to the PS3™ system.

  3. Select (Settings) > (Network Settings).

  4. Select [Internet Connection Settings].
    Select [Yes] when a confirmation screen is displayed stating that you will be disconnected from the Internet.

  5. Select [Easy].



  6. Select [Wireless].



  7. Select [Scan].
    A list of access points within the range of the PS3™ system is displayed.

    Depending on the model of PS3™ system in use, you may have the option [Automatic]. Select [Automatic] when using an access point that supports automatic setup. If you follow the on-screen instructions, the necessary settings will be completed automatically. For information on access points that support automatic setup, contact your local retailer.



  8. Select the access point that you want to use.To connect to the TROY network
    Select the SSID RESNET Console as your wireless network.

    An "SSID" is an identification name assigned to an access point.



  9. Select the security settings that you want to use. Select WPA-PSK for the TROY Network. For Current WPA-PSK key see instructions at the top of the page.




  10. Save your settings.

  11. Test the connection.

    If you select [Test Connection], the system will attempt to connect to the Internet.

  12. Confirm the connection test results.

    If a successful connection has been made, information on the network will be displayed.

Configure and test

Next you need to configure your wireless settings and test your Xbox LIVE connection. The steps vary slightly, depending on your console's software.

New Software Setup:

Configure your wireless settings.

  1. On your console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
  2. Select Network Settings.
  3. Select the name of your wireless network. To Connect to the TROY network Select RESNET Console as your wireless network.



    Note: If you do not see your wireless network, select Advanced Options. Then select Specify Unlisted Network, and enter your wireless network name. Next, you are prompted to choose the security type.
  4. Select Yes if you are prompted to update your console software.

When you successfully connect to Xbox LIVE, your screen will look like this:

Old Software Setup:

  1. On your console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
  2. Select Network Settings.
  3. Select Configure Network.
  4. On the Basic Settings tab, select Wireless Mode.



  5. Select Scan for Networks.
  6. Select your wireless network name. To connect to the TROY network Select RESNET Console as your wireless network.
  7. Select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.
  8. Select Yes when you are prompted to update your console software. Once your console software is updated, continue to the next step.

Xbox 360 Console with wireless adapter:

Connect a wireless adapter (original Xbox 360 console only)

1. Snap the plastic tabs on the adapter into the slots on the back of your console 2. Plug the USB cable into the USB port. 3. Flip up the antennae.
4.If a network cable is plugged into the back of your console, unplug it.
5. Check the light on the wireless adapter. If the light is green, you are ready for the next step.

New Software Setup:
