Overview

What is Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM)? Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) is a desktop management tool offered by Microsoft. MECM enhances the power of Active Directory. With this power, technology managers can remotely perform the following:

  • Operating System Deployment
  • Power Management
  • Inventory - hardware and software
  • Patching - Microsoft updates, third-party software, and in-house

Microsoft Update Schedule

Microsoft monthly security updates and patches are pushed out to users' PCs the third week of every month. Users will have a 7 day grace period where they can postpone or start the update at a time that is more convenient for them. After the grace period has passed, the updates can no longer be postponed and will automatically be installed on the machine.

Immediate Updates

There may be times when IT will need to immediately install updates. An example of this could be a recently reported vulnerability that is currently being exploited and needs to be patched as quickly as possible.
