What to Expect when receiving updates after SCCM is deployed.

SCCM Software Center’s “Required Changes” system is replacing the normal Windows Updates process. Several new popups and icons will appear on your system, so we wanted to make you aware of what they look like so you can make sure the updates are applied.

As we transition from Windows Automatic Updates to the more capable System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM or ConfigMgr), the timing and the appearance of alerts and update-related content is changing as well.

Clicking on this alert brings up a Software Center (SC) update windows. If the alert goes away before you have a chance to click on it, you can go to the Software Center system tray icon.

Click the tray icon to get a menu:

Selecting the View Required Software menu item will bring up the Software Center update window below. This shows the date and time at which the updates become mandatory, the number of updates required, and provides an opportunity to install now or delay.

Updates can be installed from this dialog, which is probably the easiest method. If we want to see a list of the pending software changes, click the View details link to open the Software Center.

To install the needed updates from the previous dialog, we select the Apply all required changes now option and click OK. From the window above, we would check all the updates we want to install and then click Install.

As an alternate workflow, we could avoid the system tray icon altogether. We can simply start the Software Center application using Start/Search, look at the Installation Status tab, and proceed as described above.

 Another alert will indicate that updates are being downloaded and the process is underway.

Once the updates have finished the initial installation, if any of them require a reboot (for example, to update core OS components), an additional alert will appear to let us know.

This alert lets us know that a reboot is required.

Clicking this alert brings up the Software Center computer restart window. Alternatively, we can use the Software Center tray icon again, although the icon has now changed.

If we have waited until after the deadline to install the updates — perhaps we were out of the office for a couple days — or have delayed restarting our computer until that time, a count-down timer will appear as a ninety-minute grace period elapses.

Windows 10

What to expect when you login to Windows 10 for the first time

The end-user will continue to login with your Trojan WebExpress credentials.

The applications on your PC have been pre-screened for Windows 10 compatibility, however not all of the 6200+ unique applications present on University PCs have been rated either compatible or incompatible by their vendors. If the Windows 10 Upgrade process finds any incompatible applications on your PC, they will be removed as part of the process. The first time that someone logs on to the PC, they will be informed of any such applications removed in this manner. Start menu

Windows 10 brings back the familiar Windows desktop and Start menu from Windows 7. The Start menu is enhanced with resizable tiles and other new capabilities to help you be more productive.
From the Start menu, you can:

  • Lock your computer, change your account settings, or sign out.
  • Quickly access your apps (both traditional Win32 and modern), documents, pictures, and settings.
  • Shut down your computer, restart it, or put it to sleep.
  • Search for apps, settings, and files, and search across the web.
  • Immediately launch advanced system tools such as Power Options and Disk Management.

Display the Start menu

To display the Start menu:

  • Select the Start  button on the far left of the Windows Taskbar.

  • Press Windows logo key on the keyboard.


Forticlient VPN

Windows 10 upgrade will include a new VPN client called Forticlient to access Datatel, secure shares, and Student Document Imaging.

  1. Click on Icon for fortigate icon called Forticlient in programs, applications, system tray or on the Desktop.
  2. Input credentials

    For Datatel VPN:
    User id: webexpress ID - The Username you use on WebExpress or E-mail.
    Password: Cisco VPN password - Your Datatel VPN password.

    For TrojanNet VPN (Remote Users):
    User: Trojannet\webexpress ID
    Password: AD password - Same password you use to login to your computer
  3. You must use the Internet Explorer 11 browser when connecting to Datatel/Colleague. Other browser may appear to work but do not function correctly.

Outlook Password

Upon launching Outlook for the first time, you may be prompted to enter your email password. This is the same password as your Trojan WebExpress. If you would like Outlook to remember this password, please check the box, “Remember my credentials” before pressing the “OK” button.
