MY Portal (my.troy.edu)

In early 2019 TROY IT launched the my.troy.edu site (MY portal) in conjunction with the launch of Marketing and Communication’s new troy.edu website. These two efforts provide different groups of people with information that is specific to their needs. The troy.edu website offers content intended primarily for prospective students and the community, while the MY portal provides direct access to information and services for current students, faculty and staff.

The MY portal supports single sign-on, which means that authorized users that have logged into MY will also be able to access many services without logging into each one again, individually, including Canvas, Troy University Self-Service, Helpdesk and more.

As a new student at TROY, the MY portal is your resource for information.

MY Homepage

The homepage at https://my.troy.edu/index.html, which is the first page that users will see after logging into the website, carries over the spirit of the previous “Trojan Hub” page, which featured large “tile” links to important services. Over the years we’ve found this layout to be preferred by most of our users; the links contained on this page were selected based on the percentage of traffic that they received.

SOS Notifications

Notifications that were previously only available directly on the sos.troy.edu website are displayed, automatically, across all pages of the MY portal. For example, on-going service issues or critical safety alerts are displayed in all pages, when activate. Important notifications provide full details of the outage or safety event, from directly in MY.

Site-Wide Notifications

Each page includes an area where important notices are displayed such as links to streamed events, critical information about new technology deployments and activities that impact the university-wide community.

Troy University Communication Methods

The Troy University Communications Methods page refers to all electronic services used by the university to communicate with its constituents. Some of these services are regularly used to communicate directly with faculty, staff, and students (Trojan E-mail, Self-Service) while others are only used in emergency situations (Omnilert, SOS Website, Network Authentication).

SOS - Safety Notices and System Alerts

TROY provides information regarding safety notices and system alerts via the SOS website. Safety notices are also sent via email and/or text message through Omnilert. Alerts include, but are not limited to, weather, building safety, etc. SOS notices are also sent through the TROYUSOS Twitter account . All TROY users automatically have an Omnilert account (accessed by using their TrojanPass credentials) from which they will receive notices to their TROY email account. Students are encouraged to sign up for text alerts to receive notifications as soon as they are issued. For more information on how to manage notices, please visit the knowledge base at helpdesk.troy.edu.

Security

It is very important that you maintain the security of your computer and personal information. With proper software maintenance you can greatly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of identity theft.

Never share your passwords for Information Technology services such as Trojan E-Mail, Self-Service, or Canvas with anyone.

Security Best Practices

  • Never share your password. Never!
  • Don’t talk to strangers!
    • It sounds silly, but phishing can be an email or a phone call.
  • Always use a unique password for each account, if this is an option.
    • Use a password manager to help you keep track, don’t write them on a sticky.
  • Use privacy settings on social websites and review them often.
  • Before sharing anything online, remember…what happens on the web, stays on the web.
  • Limit your use of public Wi-Fi.
    • Consider waiting to access sensitive accounts until you are at home.
  • Update your devices and your antivirus software regularly.

TROY Technology Policies

Students are encouraged to review TROY's Residential Network (RESNET) Policy and other technology policies that govern the use of electronic resources.

Internet Access

All students must ensure their computers have updated anti-virus software and system updates are current before connecting to our network. Failure to properly protect a computer may result in the computer becoming infected with malware and possibly being blocked from the network.

You can visit the Software section for information about anti-virus and related software.

Please read about Troy’s Network Authenticated Login System, which is how a student will gain access to TROY’s network

  • Sensitive Data?

Precautions

  • Report in Outlook:
    • Desktop application: Click Report Message → Phishing
