Voice Mail is an automated message service that is accessed when your phone is unanswered after four rings or if you are on the other line. Voice Mail provides you the ability to personalize your telephone greeting and retrieve messages from anywhere.

Setting Up Your Voice Mailbox

Dial 5250. The default passcode is set to 1111. Follow the directions given by the system. Be sure to setup all 3 features:

  1. New Passcode: The passcode may be 2 to 4 digits in length and may not begin with 0.
  2. Greeting: Follow directions given.
    • Recommended Greeting: You have reached the office of _______ of Troy University . I am either currently on the phone or away from my desk. (May include office hours.) Please leave your name and number and I will return your call as soon as possible. If you wish to speak to the receptionist, press 0 now. Thank you for calling.
  3. Name: follow the directions given.

 

Voicemail

When you have a message your voicemail button will flash. (This button only works when flashing. Dial 5250 to access your voicemail box when no new messages are waiting.)

To retrieve messages:

  • Press the Voicemail button on the right side of the phone
  • Enter passcode
  • Choose from the following options:
    • Dial 7 to PLAY
    • Dial 7 to PLAY
    • Dial 3 to DELETE
    • Dial 8 for TIME AND DATE
    • Dial 2 to FORWARD OR REPLY

 

Transferring Calls

To transfer a call to another extension:

  • Press inquiry
  • Dial extension number
  • Press transfer

Placing a Call on Hold

Press the blinking line button at the bottom left side of panel.

Outgoing Calls

Making internal and external calls:

  • Lift handset or press the speaker button and proceed depending on call type:
    • Internal Calls
      • Dial the extension number. Note: only 4 digit extensions may be used.
      • Press C or replace handset to end call.
    • External Calls
      • Local
        • Dial 9.
        • Dial the external number.
        • Press C or replace handset to end call.
      • Troy Campus Extension
        • Dial 8.
        • Dial the 4 digit extension
        • Press C or replace handset to end call.
      • Long Distance
        • Dial 88.
        • Dial 1-Area-Code-Number.
        • Enter Attnet Code.
        • Press C or replace handset to end call.
      • CVCC Campus Extension
        • Dial 6
        • Dial area code-Number
        • Enter Attnet Code.
        • Press C or replace handset to end call.
        • Please note: When using CVCC's line 6 to make a long distance call, do not dial a 1 before the area code.

The purpose of the Telecommunications department is to manage and maintain the Troy Campus telephone system at Troy University and to provide advice and support to the Troy University system at all locations as time and resources permit; and to research ways that communications technologies can improve learning and working environments. The Telecommunications department provides quality local and long distance service to all faculty, staff and students at the most economical cost by accomplishing the services listed below.

  1. Telephone service
  2. Long distance service
  3. Upkeep and maintenance of the telephone switch and sets
  4. Voicemail
  5. Consulting
  6. Engineering
  7. Installation
  8. Itemized billing statements for long distance calls
  9. Collect payments for long distance calls
  10. Provide wiring for data processing terminals throughout the Troy campus
  11. Provide wiring for telephones throughout the Troy campus
  12. Order and maintain inventory for all materials needed to perform all the above services

Telephone Dialing Instructions

Troy on-campus directory assistance: Dial 3100
On campus calls: Dial only the 4-digit extension number.
Local calls: Dial 9, plus 7-digit number.
Toll Free calls: Dial 9, 1, 10-digit number.
Phenix City campus: 1 plus 4-digit extension number.

How to set up voicemail:

If voicemail systems ask for mailbox number:
Troy will begin with 2 and then extension (ex. 23339)
Phenix City will begin with 1 and then extension (ex. 15134)

If voicemail system ask for extension number:
Troy 4 digit extension (3339)
Phenix City will begin with 1 and then extension (ex. 15134)

To set up or change your voicemail box greeting:
Dial 3095, type in your security code, press 3 for phone manager functions, press 1 personal options, press 3 to change your greeting, 4 to change security code, 5 to change name.

To check your voicemail from your extension on campus:
Press the voicemail button if the light is flashing or dial 3095, enter security code, follow instructions, press 1 to listen to message and 4 to delete message.

To check your voicemail from on campus other than your extension:
Dial 3000, when the voicemail system answers press * then press #, dial 2 and mailbox number (ex. 23339), follow instructions.

To check your voicemail from your house:
Dial 670-3000, when the voicemail system answers press #, dial 2 and mailbox number (ex. 23339), follow instructions, when finished hang up.

To transfer a call straight to a voicemail box:
Dial 3000, when voicemail answers press *, press 8 then type in extension number that you want to transfer to (ex. 3339), then press the #.
